The second industrial revolution brought about steel, chemicals, electricity, and petroleum.
New Products
Steel was substituted for iron.
Rolling and shaping steel made it useful for construction of smaller, lighter, faster engines.
The U.S. ended up producing more steel than the leaders in Europe but, in Europe Britain and Germany were the leaders.

Though new political forces were quite successful with establishing liberal practices (parliaments, constitutions, individual liberties). However, old forces still lingered and attempted to counter this liberation.
Western Europe: The Growth of Political Democracy
Parliamentary governments were deeply rooted in the western European states, mainly Britain and France.
The reforms were not as successful in Italy and Spain.
